Message first. When you pull the motor and have the chains connected to the side brackets of the plenum, the motor is near a perfect balance which makes pulling it out much easier. If you leave the tranny on, you're going to need to tilt the motor/trans quite a bit to clear everything, all the while doing your best not to spill any fluid from the tranny.
